
From Beam to Table
300 years of history, time for another Century of service.
The story behind the wood in this table begins most likely in the late 17th or early 18th Century when some acorns put down roots. 120 years later the trees they had grown into were cut down, hand sawn and hewn into floor beams for a small country cottage in the depths of the Irish countryside.
This wood has very tight growth rings, it would have grown through the “Little Ice Age” which was a colder climatic period worldwide throughout the 18th and 19th Centuries. This would have led to short growing seasons, resulting in wood which is very dense and consequently heavy and robust.
Here is a comparison with some modern Oak which has grown through the 20th Century, the warmer climate has led to much wider growth rings.
