Pitch Pine Dining Table.

A heavy solid wood table made from reclaimed beams, featuring glueless solid wood joinery.

All parts lock together without metal fixings or glue.

The trestle legs lock together using large heavy duty tenons top and bottom, held with friction and gravity.

The legs then sit on dark walnut feet with matching pegs that lock a heavy trestle beam holding the table solidly together.

The table top is three large half beams, the outer two bookmatched to each other as they come from the same beam. The top discreetly slides onto the legs on dovetail rails.

Made from two of these large and very heavy reclaimed beams. There were enough nails embedded in the wood for it to take a whole day to remove all of them.

I wanted to maintain the large heavy scale of the beams.

The top stays close to the original form of the beams while the leg assembly is compact enough for comfortable legroom but keeping a thick and heavy appearance.

Walnut was chosen for the pegs and feet as the dark wood matches the dark bottom and sides of the table top. The bottom and sides of the top were lightly hand planed to maintain the reclaimed appearance of the beams while making them smooth.

Finished with linseed oil for a smooth, waterproof and durable finish which brings out the beauty of the wood.
